A game that was heavily praised by critics when it was released, “The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth” is set to get some new content sometime this year. Developer Edmund McMillen announced that “The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth” DLC will be titled “Afterbirth” and will reportedly increase the gameplay time by 100-200 hours.

Announced via the Binding of Isaac site, the “Rebirth” DLC will feature a ton of new content, along with some challenges that were personally requested from various fans. McMillen admitted that the entirety of the fan-requested challenges might not make it in the game and the few that do will probably not be designed as the descriptions given.

The “Afterbirth” expansion will feature 100 new items, a new game mode that will reportedly change the way the game is played, 10 new challenges, a new playable character, a new playable final chapter, new game endings, new bosses and much more. Considering that the “Binding of Isaac” was already filled with numerous alternate endings and various unlockables, the statement that the content will increase the hours of gameplay is highly believable.

In fact, the game was already considered highly replayable on its lonesome according to Polygon. After all, the scope of the game is already quite big and the numerous aforementioned unlockables is in theory, more than enough to satisfy most gamers hungry for a challenge.

McMillen said that the entirety of announced content coming is free, but only for those who purchased the “Wrath of the Lamb” expansion that was released for the game. This expansion was already filled with numerous content like extra items and new levels, so the fact that this free update will feature even more playable content for “Binding of Isaac” fans can be considered highly impressive.

No specific release date was given for the upcoming “Afterbirth” DLC, but McMillen is hoping to release the content in the middle of this year. In the mean time, the developer has asked fans about the type of item combos they want to see in the game that currently isn’t available and post it on this Reddit thread. The top 10 that are chosen will supposedly be revealed in the next blog update.
