Sophos, a security firm, announced the recent scam that involves the installation of a dislike button in Facebook. This is done through links claiming from people in your friends list that tells you that you should install a dislike button for your Facebook account. It is a third-party application that serves as a scam for most Facebook users.

Links for the encouragement of installing a dislike button appear on people's walls making it more of a scam than an invitation and these are done automatically by going to the dislike button application. These are posted in an automatic manner once someone has been fooled in to installing the dislike button. One of the aims of the scam is to make people complete a survey so they can be given access to the download of a dislike button for their Facebook accounts. These surveys appear once someone clicks on links that are somewhat irrelevant to the whole dislike button idea.

Since there are almost 500 million Facbook users across the Globe, it has become a target for scams and viruses as well. These can be very dangerous considering the potential damage it can do to one's computer or laptop. After being able to fill out the survey, the person is automatically led to the site of FaceMod which is the one who is responsible for the dislike button taking the form of a Firefox plug-in. Sophos made it clear though that the scam is not connected to FaceMod in any way.

If one wants to try installing FaceMod add-ons, one should access them directly from the Firefox website of Add-ons. To give permission to an application to access a profile of a Facebook user can lead to negative repercussions like scams and having your friends affected by the scams as well.
