The first leg matches of the semi-finals between Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspurs, Sheffield United are over. The first one has resulted in a one all draw while the second one has been won by Tottenham by a single goal. The return leg will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday evening next week.

The talking point in this round of matches have been the skirmish between Diego Costa of Chelsea and Jordan Henderson of Liverpool after the end of the match at the players tunnel while they were returning to their respective dressing rooms. It is reported that the two apparently pushed each other and had to be separated by the Liverpool backroom staff. No blows were traded but they had a furious argument.

During the match the tension between these two players were being felt and it reached fever pitch after the match in the tunnel. The tension started when Henderson stepped on fellow Chelsea Spaniard Cesc Fabregas’ feet and pushed him over. Referee for the occasion Martin Atkinson stepped in to diffuse the issue. Costa also seemed to be having a confrontation with Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel throughout the match.

The match at Anfield had one goal in the first half when Chelsea’s Eden Hazard converted a penalty on the 18th minute of the game. Liverpool equalised in the second half through Raheem Sterling. Ironically it was Henderson who played the through ball for the Sterling goal.

In the other match at White Hart Lane it was another penalty converted by Andros Townsend midway through the second half that gave Spurs a slender lead going into the second leg away from home. For a Premier League club playing an opponent from League One it was supposed to be a much more comprehensive affair.

Nothing is settled and both the ties can go either way next week when these four teams again resume their battle to fight for a place at the show-piece Wembly final.
