Dexter Season 8, Episode 11 ("Monkey in a Box") is about the tricks of two psychopaths, and how one of them - the Brain Surgeon - was always two steps ahead. Fans have been saying how they'll miss Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall. The gory countdown begins to the series finale.

Thanks to Hannah McKay, the "old Dexter" is gone. And Debra Morgan sustains a potentially fatal gunshot wound courtesy of the Brain Surgeon, Oliver Saxon. After eight years, Dexter's ending is likely to begin with Deb's death. Dexter Season 8, Episode 11 ends in a very nasty situation for the Miami Police returnee.

Spoiler Alert: This feature contains recap, reviews and spoilers of the penultimate episode of Showtime's Dexter. If you haven't seen Dexter Season 8, Episode 11, read at your own risk. The series finale unfolds in a weeks' time.

"I forget about you, you forget about me," Oliver Saxon tells Dexter Morgan. The latter detests Saxon for even suggesting a truce. He has two days to kill him.

Dexter tries to push Debra away to protect her. But she tells him, "Nothing is gonna stand in the way of me having one more night with my brother." This is the one person who loved Dexter through and through. She did try to kill him, but that's a PTSD matter. How did things turn so bad for this Morgan?

Debra Morgan's ruined life starts all the way from daddy Harry. He adopts Dexter, teaches him Evelyn Vogel's code, and then kills himself for having created a monster. But if Dexter had been extremely careful, Deb wouldn't have found out about his "dark passenger."

Jacob Elway is instrumental to the whole Deb Morgan is doomed scenario. But he wouldn't have existed, if Deb had not killed María LaGuerta -- all for the love of Dexter. And Elway wouldn't have been on Deb's tail had she not been so mad of Hannah McKay - the woman who tried to kill her in Dexter Season 7.

A woman and being in love changed Dexter. Against nothing-to-lose Saxon, Dexter Morgan is weaker, less focused, and a lot slower. Dexter Season 8 shows how life has completely changed for this psychopath. One of the big problems in the penultimate episode, however, is how could a U.S. marshal not recognize a mad serial killer?

In Dexter Season 8, Episode 11, Dexter keeps telling imaginary Harry that the "old Dexter" is gone. And he couldn't wait to leave Miami to be with Hannah McKay in Argentina - even if this means leaving Debra behind.

"There's a human being in there. There always has been," Debra tells Dexter. This could be her last words to her beloved brother. If only Dexter had not changed his mind at the last few minutes of the episode!

Hannah McKay and Debra Morgan may have, in their odd ways, patched things up. But if Deb dies, Hannah is still the reason. Hannah, the only woman who's ever silenced Dexter's dark passenger.

Next week, Dexter Season 8 Episode 12, the series finale, airs on Sept. 22 (Sunday), the same night of the Emmy Awards 2013. Check out the slideshow to see some Dexter fandom posts on Tumblr.
