Dexter Season 8 Episode 1 is called "A Beautiful Day." Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter return as Dexter and Debra Morgan.

These two characters have never been so torn apart in the history of the series, but viewers can understand where Debra's "hate" is coming from. The premiere opens six months into the future from the Season 7 finale. Hannah McKay is not yet back, but she's definitely a part of Dexter's final bow.

Things are not looking good in Dexter Season 8, at least one beloved character is extremely unwell. Debra is diving into the rabbit hole of drug addiction, and she's out of Miami Metro PD. Dexter is not letting go of Debra easily, but he just couldn't empathize with his sister. Debra tells Dexter, "You made me compromise everything about myself that I cared about...and I hate you for it."

Batista has made a great U-turn from retirement to promotion as lieutenant, because Debra has left to become a private investigator. The first interesting addition in Dexter Season 8 is played by Sean Patrick Flannery. He is introduced as Jacob Elway, Deb's new boss. Spoilers indicate he'll be around in all episodes of Dexter's final season, so fans will be speculating on his motives a lot. There's not enough to tie him up to Debra's or Dexter's life, but he'll figure in more scenes later.

Dexter Season 8 has another very interesting character. Portrayed by Charlotte Rampling, this character takes Dexter and the viewers well deep into the psychopath's past. The FBI calls her, the "Psychopath Whisperer" Dr. Evelyn Vogel. When Dr Vogel and Dexter look each other straight in the eyes, the scene gets too intense. So far, everything's building up well for Dexter's farewell season.

Hannah McKay is not yet around, but there's so much intensity in the build-up already, so that's just fine. Writers probably want the viewers to give her a sharper focus when she returns in Dexter's life.

Overall, Dexter Season 8 premiere is solid albeit a lot less calm in relation to LaGuerta's death. Then again, it starts off 6 months after the murder, so the chaos has been sorted out, supposedly. Does it make you want to stick around until the very last episode of the series? Definitely.

If you've seen the episode, did you spot some clues as to how Dexter and Debra would wind up in the series finale?

Meanwhile, Dexter fans on Twitter are tweeting their own little farewell to the psychopath character they've grown to love.

My way of saying hello to the inevitable goodbye I'll be saying for the next twelve Sundays. #dexter @DextergrBlog pic.twitter.com/XkJ04J03Nz

Some of Dexter fans are still not ready to say goodbye.

Now take a good look at Dexter's kid, and see if you agree to this tweet below.

The way Harrison ages, he's going to be driving by the end of the series. #dexter
