Last week, game developer Rocksteady Studios announced that the “Batman: Arkham Knight” Season Pass would cost $40. The results lead to a mixed reaction, as players and critics wondered why they should pay $40 for content that hasn’t been announced yet. It seems that Rocksteady has decided to respond to the criticism, as the developer announced a good number of the content in the “Arkham Knight” Season Pass.

Announced through the company’s Facebook page, the “Batman: Arkham Knight” Season Pass will give players instant access to six months worth of content. The content in question includes a number of new story missions featuring Batman or his allies protecting Gotham City from hordes of new villains in “The Season of Infamy” and “Gotham City Stories.”

However, the most intriguing piece of “Arkham Knight’ DLC by far is the prequel story “Batgirl: A Matter of Family.” While Rocksteady’s previous outing, “Arkham City” let players play as Robin, Nightwing and Catwoman, this is the first time in the “Arkham” games that Batgirl is a playable character.

Batgirl becoming a playable character opens up plenty of possibilities for fans of the “Batman Arkham” games. Gameplay wise, it will be interesting to see how different Barbara Gordon plays compared to the other characters and story wise, her prequel story might reveal how she ended up taking up the moniker Oracle and hanging up her Batgirl boots.

Fans of DC Comics know that Barbara Gordon was crippled by the Joker in the critically acclaimed one-shot “Batman: The Killing Joke,” which was written by Alan Moore and drawn by Brian Bolland. Whether the Batgirl DLC will follow the comic’s story or add a completely new spin on things should provide plenty of entertainment to fans of the game.

Other content revealed in the “Arkham Knight: Season Pass” include multiple versions of the batmobile, new challenge maps and characters skins for the various playable characters, presumably from the comics. However it is the inclusion of Batgirl that has made the season pass noteworthy, as Kotaku stated that the inclusion of the longtime Batman supporting character has raised fan interest to get the pass.

“Batman: Arkham Knight” is coming out this June for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC after a few delays. The supposedly final game in the Arkham Trilogy features a Gotham City taken over by Scarecrow and the mysterious Arkham Knight, with Batman and his allies having to do everything they can to stop the villains.
