A new “Star Wars” live-action TV series is being developed with a budget of $100 million (about AU$135 million). Details about the timeline and the plot have leaked online.

According to a report by Making Star Wars, sources familiar with the development of Jon Favreau’s new TV series have revealed that it will be about the planet Mandalore. The plot will be set three years after the events in “Return of the Jedi” film.

After the fall of the Empire, there will be chaos in Mandalore. The upcoming TV series will be about restoring the planet to it’s former glory. The plot will also show how the events on the planet and the decisions taken by its people will have implications for the whole galaxy.

The report notes that the TV series could be about competing philosophies. While some Mandalorians have always wanted to return to their old ways of fighting and waging wars, there is another more progressive group that wants the planet to be peaceful.

The show will introduce new characters, but the report notes that Bobba Fett may make a cameo appearance. The other big character who may appear on the show is Sabine Wren (Voice by Tiya Sirca) from the “Rebels” animation series.

ILMxLAB is reportedly providing the latest technology for the visual effects of the show. This technology has reportedly not been used in the movies yet, and the TV series may be a good testing ground for Disney and Lucasfilm to see if the same can be used in the films, based on the acceptance of the visuals by the audience.

Since it is an expensive show to create, only 10 episodes have been ordered. It remains to be seen if the show will get picked up for another season or if the plan is to wrap up the story in just one season.
