Gru's adorable yellow goggle-wearing minions may be the biggest reason why "Despicable Me 2" continuous to soar at the box office.

Universal's "Despicable Me 2" has been reported to have already earned an impressive $48 million overseas, starting its premiere in New South Wales, Australia in early June. The animated feature earned a total gross of $4.3 million in its opening weekend.

"Despicable Me 2" and Disney's "The Lone Ranger" are eyeing the Independence Day holiday stretch in the United States to rake in more ticket sales.

While "Despicable Me 2" is enjoying its success in the box office, it also garnered positive reviews from critics despite mixed reactions.

Forbes.com wrote: "The first act of Despicable Me 2 is so winning and engaging that it’s almost a tragedy how the rest of the film falls into bargain basement formula.

"The film’s visual wit continues up through the end, and the minions will make your kids laugh throughout, but the adherence to cliché is disheartening," the Boston Globe's Tom Russo wrote.

UK Sun's Alex Zane praised the film and wrote, "Like the very best animations, Despicable Me 2 manages to be thoroughly entertaining for kids and adults alike. Absolutely brilliant."

"Despicable Me 2" stars Steve Carell, Russell Brand, Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Steve Coogan, Benjamin Bratt and Ken Jeong.
