The Democratic National Committee (DNC) will vote later in February 2017 on a resolution that condemns “Designated Survivor” on ABC. The DNC was particularly upset about a scene on the fictional political thriller.

According to Townhall, the DNC was not pleased with how the fictional version of the FBI Director on “Designated Survivor” was supposedly blackmailed into admitting a crime that he did not commit. DNC superdelegate William Owen submitted the resolution, which stated that Director Comey showed in the recent 2016 election that he did not need to be blackmailed to join illegal partisan actions.

Comey’s partisan and illegal letters also resulted in the election of President Donald Trump. The resolution encourages people to have the same respect for the FBI as Director Comey presented with his illegal actions.

Democrats claimed that Comey announced in October 2016 that the FBI had reason to continue an investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server as secretary of state cost her the election. Comey provided a follow-up statement that the FBI was no longer investigating the matter, although Democrats believe that the initial press conference already damaged Clinton’s chances.

Based on the resolution (see full text below), the portrayal of the FBI Director being blackmailed to confess is unbelievable and could result in the undermining of people’s faith in the FBI. The document apparently shows the Democrats’ disdain for the newly elected President Trump, who was described as “not my president.”

“Designated Survivor” is currently preparing for its second season, starring Kiefer Sutherland. The first season ended with an unknown hitman firing a bullet during the inauguration of Vice President Peter MacLeish (Ashley Zukerman). The person who ordered the assassination and the victim remain a mystery that will most likely be answered in the upcoming season. Rob Morrow will reportedly be joining the cast in a recurring role.

“Designated Survivor” is set to return on Mar. 8, 2017 on ABC in the US. There may be changes in the schedule if the DNC votes to ban the show. Some fans believe that it was too much for the DNC to respond in such a manner, considering how other political dramas and shows relating to current events also present similar but fictional theories.
