Popular Korean drama series “Descendants of the Sun” is confirmed to have a special director’s cut DVD. Actors Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have been confirmed to take part in the special release.

It’s been six month since the production team of the drama gathered, the last time was the show’s press conference back in February. Now Joong Ki and Hye Kyo, along with most of the cast and crew, will see each other again to take part in recording the commentaries for the director’s cut DVD.

“Descendants of the Sun” was a major hit in South Korea after its release. With the show’s extensive production and much beloved casts, DOTS’s popularity dominated the whole of Asia and later generated fans across the globe. Due to its fame, KBS, one of the biggest South Korean television networks, aired additional special episodes for the show, which run from April 20 to April 22. The special episodes contained highlights and the best scenes from the series. It also included behind-the-scene footages and production process. Now, more never-before-seen footages of the show are promised in the director’s cut DVD, including new commentaries from Joong Ki, Hye Kyo, along with Jin Goo and Kim Ji Won.

“Descendants of the Sun” is a romance drama set in a fictional country “Uruk.” Captain Yoo Shi, portrayed by Joong Ki, and medical doctor Kang Mo Yeon, played by Hye Kyo, fall in love at first sight. However, due to their jobs and principles, the two decided to break up and relieve themselves from any relationship commitment. Months later however, due to their professional duties, the two met in “Uruk” where their love gets tested once more.

As Soompi reported, the director’s cut DVD of “Descendant of the Sun” is set to be released sometime in November.
