Derryn Hinch has formed a new political party to take part in the federal election in 2016. The seasoned journalist is also going to run for a Senate seat in Victoria.

According to Hinch, it is the right time to form his political party when the people in Australia are fed up with the major parties. "Australians are fed up with the quality, or lack of quality, in our judicial system," his press release says.

Hinch added that his party would stand for "justice and equality." According to Hinch, the Lindt Cafe siege should never have happened. He also voices his support for animal justice, equal pay for women and same-sex marriage.
"So that all people can live and marry and work like everybody else -- plus equal pay and equal reward -- whatever their colour, creed or sexuality’," the journalist said.

"We believe our courts should treat domestic violence as a crime and there must be equal rights, including same-sex marriage and equal pay for women and animal justice," The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Hinch as saying.
The veteran broadcaster, as the Human Headline, has also explained his reason to go into politics. "My decision to go into politics is a result of all the support we received for last year’s Jail 2 Justice walk and the 160,000 people who signed the petition for a national public register of convicted sex offenders," Hinch said.

When his "secret political ambition" was revealed by Fairfax Media last week, Hinch said he was "seriously considering" an opportunity to join the Parliament. According to the SMH, Hinch was "convicted three times and jailed twice for contempt of court and breaching suppression orders."

The 71-year-old broadcaster underwent a liver transplant in 2010 after doctors had given him 12 months to live.
