Antonio Smith, defensive end for the Denver Broncos, is being investigated for child abuse in Texas.

TMZ Sports learned that the former Pro Bowler allegedly committed child abuse several times, dating back to 2010, according to insiders.

John Healey, District Attorney of Fort Bend County, confirmed that the case is under the child abuse division. Currently, no charges have been filed yet against Smith.

Healey told TMZ, “We're trying to discern the truth from the untruthfulness of the claim to decide what charges, if any, will be filed."

Reportedly, the child abuse case was initially reported in Colorado in November 2014. The case was sent to Texas, because the complainant said that it was where the incidents allegedly happened, based on the same TMZ report.

SB Nation wrote that Smith signed with the Denver Broncos on April 2, 2015 for a deal lasting one year. Smith is 6-foot-3 and 290 pounds. He is a 12-year NFL veteran, having played 156 games and starting in 133 during his career. In 2004, Smith was drafted in the fifth round by the Arizona Cardinals out of Oklahoma State University. In 2009, he transferred to the Houston Texans. During the 2014 NFL season, Smith played with the Oakland Raiders.

During his regular season career, SB Nation cited that Smith garnered 303 tackles, 44.5 sacks, 11 forced fumbles, 11 fumble recoveries and eight passes defensed. He started in a minimum of 15 games during his previous six campaigns and is one of eight NFL players to have multiple sacks each season since 2005. He made the Pro Bowl in 2011. Smith recorded the third-highest pass rush grade of any defensive tackle in 2014, although he also had the worst run defense grade.

Smith has yet to comment on the child abuse allegations against him.
