A 47-year-old woman fell on Monday evening from a defective carnival ride in Virginia. The accident occurred at the Frederick County Fair while the visitor was on the carnival’s SuperShot ride.

The SuperShot shuttles carnival guests to the top of the tower and then drops them suddenly. A hydraulic break stops the riders before their seat reaches the ground and then they are slowly lowered to a platform, reports the New York Daily News.

The victim was hurled from the ride while it was descending from the tower because the single seat she occupied was detached from the ride’s main frame. The woman fell 40 feet to the ground. According to the Shenandoah County fire department’s tweet, a broken ride cable caused the accident.

She was rushed to the Winchester Medical Center for treatment, but her condition remains unknown. The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, in a press release, said it is still investigating the cause of the accident, reports Fox 5.

Despite the thrills the carnival rides offer, a number of amusement park disasters had taken place in different parts of the US.
