What happens to Batman when the Joker dies? This is a question you can never really ask in mainstream super hero comics, where status quo is the law and characters can never die--and even if they did, they'd be brought back within a year or so. So it must have taken Rocksteady some serious guts to kill off The Joker at the end of "Batman: Arkham City." With that event happening the question can finally be answered in a new prequel comic for "Batman: Arkham Knight" that sets out to answer what Batman's life is after The Joker.

The comic series will be set during the fallout from "Batman: Arkham City" with Bruce Wayne recovering from his injuries while pondering his role as Gotham's saviour now that the biggest threat to the city has died according to Newsarama. But little does he know that new threats are set to come as the comic sets up how Bruce's world becomes different when the "Arkham Knight" appears.

Current "Batman and Robin" writer Peter Tomasi will write the series, with Victor Bogdanovic and Art Thibert supplying art for the story. The series will be released on digital first, with the first print issue coming out on Mar. 2015. The firs print issue is set to collect the first two or three digital issues of the series.

Rocksteady's game and finale to the long-running series, however, is still shrouded in mystery. With the city's chaos and the civilians' evacuation as the only details to the narrative so far, along with Batman's return and the rise of the "Arkham Knight, fans are still expecting a little more before the release date arrives. Gamespot and IGN covered two Ace Chemical investigation videos that showed gameplay usage of the "Batmobile" and the "Fear Takedown," but no new details on the story were revealed.

As far as fans know, there will also be DLC that introduces two new playable characters to the series: The Joker's heartbroken lover Harley Quinn and former Batman ally Jason Todd as The Red Hood. Eurogamer reports that while the DLC are available upon pre-order, players will also be able to purchase them post-launch.

"Batman: Arkham Knight" is set to be the conclusion of the series and set to be released for PS4, Xbox One and PC on June 2, 2015. The game will introduce new gadgets and gameplay elements that have yet to be seen in the franchise.
