Denmark’s drama entry “In a Better World” has won the award for the Best Foreign Language Film category. Honored for the award is the drama’s acclaimed filmmaker, Susanne Bier.

The award said Jake Coyle of the Associated Press is an honor both for Bier and for Denmark Cinema. It has defeated fellow nominees including, “Dogtooth” (Greece), “Incendies” (Canada), “Outside the Law” (Algeria) and “Biutiful” (Mexico).

“In a Better World” is the third Danish film to be awarded of the foreign language film award at the Oscars. Other winners for the category were “Babette’s Feast" (1987) and “Pelle the Conqueror” (1988) .

Director Bier accepted the award for this year’s Best Foreign Language Film.
