Australian Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo says he is in love with the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. According to Ricciardo, he fell in love with the Montreal circuit even before he won his first Formula One, or F1 Grand Prix title at the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix.

Speaking ahead of the seventh round of the 2015 F1 season, Ricciardo recalls the experience when he won his maiden Grand Prix title of his racing career. He said that driving around the 4.3 km Montreal circuit was a “ridiculous amount of fun.”

“Winning (last year) has made me love (the circuit) a little bit more but really I’ve loved it since my first lap, back when I was driving for Toro Rosso,” Ricciardo said. “I remember coming back into the pits and saying ‘what a circuit,’ I was amazed at how good it was and I’d only done an install.”

Ricciardo said he loves that he can get “aggressive” with the track either flying down the kerbs or get the car whizzing around. He compared racing at the Montreal Circuit much like those days when he was go-kart racing that can certainly have someone’s heart racing and adrenaline pumping.

“There’s a lot of risk but that brings a lot of adrenaline with it. It’d be wonderful if you were doing it in isolation but with 100,000 screaming fans urging you on, it’s just mega.”

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal has hosted the Canadian Grand Prix for 30 years. In 2014, Ricciardo became the fourth Australian to claim an F1 Grand Prix title. Australian racing drivers Jack Brabham, Alan Jones, and Mark Webber have all won an F1 Grand Prix.

This year’s edition of the Canadian Grand Prix will take place from June 5 to June 7, 2015 at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Heading to Canada, the Mercedes outfit remains the team to beat after the thrilling race at the Monaco Grand Prix, which saw Nico Rosberg ripped the victory from teammate Lewis Hamilton during the final laps. Ricciardo’s team Red Bull, Force India, Lotus, and sister outfit Toro Rosso will be fighting for places during the qualifying to ensure that they will earn points come the main race on June 7.
