CSL boosts the medical research capacities of Victoria with its announcement of the expansion of primary biotech facility worth $235 million.

John Brumby, premier of Victoria, made the announcement at the CSL factory in Broadmeadows.

The biotech facility expansion is expected to create 300+ jobs, and is going to receive joint funding from CSL, and the federal and state governments.

Brian McNamee, chief executive officer of CSL, states that the biotech project will spearhead Victoria's medical research, and also for world markets.

"It will enable us to do important clinical development on a number of large projects that we're working on in the fields of cancer, haematology, inflammation, and these are long term investments," the CSL CEO said.

According to Mr. Brumby, CSL has been long time developer and manufacturer of plasma treatments and vaccines for the international market.

He states this project will strengthen Victoria's leading position in medical research.

"The thing for us, was how can we make it work with the company, to help them make this investment and turn all of that brilliant life-saving research, whether it's in cancer, whether it's in blood products, all of those areas, how can we work with the company to do that," Mr. Brumby said.
