Cristiano Ronaldo paid £10 million (US$12 million, AU$16 million) to a surrogate mother who is due to give birth to twin boys "very soon", according to a report. The 32-year-old Real Madrid superstar is expected to fly the boys to his mansion on the outskirts of the Spanish capital.

According to The Sun, Ronaldo has not divulged details of the surrogate mother to his extended family, which includes model girlfriend Georgina Rodriguez and his six-year-old son Cristiano Junior. The report added that the surrogate mother is based on the American west coast, which mirrors the circumstances surrounding the birth of his first son, who was reportedly born to a woman in San Diego, California.

A source close to the Portuguese national revealed that Ronaldo and his 23-year-old girlfriend are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the twin boys. “Cristiano and his family can’t wait to meet the new members of their clan. He likes to keep a tight lid on his private life but has told loved ones and close friends the baby boys are due to arrive very soon0. He feels the time is right for his boy to have brothers to grow up with," the source told The Sun, before adding that Ronaldo's mother, Dolores, "will be there to lend a helping hand like she has been with little Cristiano.”

Recently, Ronaldo’s new girlfriend was seen giving her undivided attention to Cristiano Junior at a La Liga game. The 2016 Euro champion had previously dated model Irina Shayk during the birth of Cristiano Jr. in 2010. Cristiano Jr. was born shortly after Portugal was knocked out of the 2010 FIFA World Cup by Spain. In the past, Ronaldo had revealed details of Cristiano Jr's biological family.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Cristiano Ronaldo made his 19th goal of the ongoing La Liga season during Real Madrid's 2-1 win over Real Betis at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. In the process, he surpassed Atletico Bilbao's Aritz Aduriz as the player with the most headed goals in the league with 46 headers.
