Cristiano Ronaldo was recently honoured with a statue at his hometown in Madeira, Portugal. Madeira is an island in Portugal known for great landscapes, wines, embroidery artisans and the biggest annual New Year fireworks show in the world.

Cristiano posted a photo of the unveiling ceremony that took place on Dec. 21 on his Instagram account. "I feel so proud to be honoured with a statue in Madeira," Cristiano captioned the photo. "It's a huge joy to share this moment with my family and the people from Madeira, thank you all for the warm reception."

According to Mail Online, Cristiano was joined by his family, his son Cristianinho and the people of Madeira. It has not been revealed if Cristiano's girlfriend Sports Illustrated model Irina Shayk came during the unveiling ceremony. The website reported that Cristiano, who came off from a win over San Lorenzo in the FIFA Club World Cup Final the day before, made sure he will be in attendance when the statue was unveiled.

The statue depicted Cristiano in a free-kick stance. However, it is hard to make out if the statue really looked like the 29-year-old Portuguese footballer. The statue has Cristiano's old hairstyle and muscular physique.

In December 2013, Cristiano has opened his own museum in Funchal, Madeira, where he was born. For Cristiano, building a museum is the best way to do when the trophies, awards and accolades he had received in his football career get a little too crowded in his filing cabinet. The latest trophy that Cristiano has added in his long list of accolades is the BBC Overseas Sports Personality Award. He is reportedly only the second football player to have been given the award. Brazil legend Ronaldo first received the award back in 2002. In the BBC Overseas Sports Personality Award, Cristiano has defeated the likes of other great global sports icon such as Serena Williams, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Marc Marquez.

Cristiano will play next in Real Madrid's match against AC Milan on Dec. 30. Real has previously won in all the five games, including Copa del Rey, Liga BBVA, Champions League and Club World Cup, that it has played since Dec. 2.
