After plenty of negative feedback and criticism, Square Enix decided to cancel the controversial pre-order program for “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.” The decision was made after the company listened to all of the aforementioned criticism and has now decided to make things right, by not only scrapping the program, but also making all of the options available for those who pre-order the game.

The program originally had fans choosing what reward they wanted as a pre-order bonus. However, they would only get a particular reward depending on how many other pre-orders the choice got. The rewards included downloadable content, comic books, music, a special in-game mission and an early release date.

This was heavily criticised by fans and critics alike, with Eurogamer calling the program convoluted. Pre-ordering of games has already been considered as one of the worst concepts in modern gaming and the fact that one of the pre-order bonuses was the game being released ahead of its schedule didn’t help matters.

Square Enix originally defended the move, saying that the choices made for the pre-order were similar to the important decisions made in the various “Deus Ex” games. The game series has been known for its multiple-choice aspect that usually affects the events in the game and has inspired other games like “Mass Effect” and “Dragon Age.”

Now, the publisher has decided to make things right by scrapping the program. To make things better, those who pre-order the game will get all of the rewards that were offered in the program. The pre-order rewards will also be available to those who purchase the Day One edition of “Mankind Divided,” reports GameSpot.

Furthermore, the “early” release date that was originally a pre-order bonus will now be the game’s official release date. So “Deus Ex: Mankind Divided” is officially coming next year on Feb. 23 for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The game is the sequel to “Deus Ex: Human Revolution,” which received positive reviews and critical acclaim. The game is currently available for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, with a Special Edition of the game available that contains all of the previously released DLC.
