Now that the end of the 2014-15 TV season is fast approaching, different TV networks are renewing their popular shows and eventually cancelling shows that are not keeping up with the ratings. NBC’s popular crime drama show “The Blacklist,” PBS period drama show “Downtown Abbey” and Fox musical drama show “Empire” are leading the renewed shows for the upcoming season.

Headed by veteran actor James Spader and Megan Boone, “The Blacklist” will be back for its third season as the show revolves around the complicated relationship between a former U.S. Navy officer turned high-profile criminal (Raymond Reddington) and rookie profiler (Elizabeth Keen). The show is renewed alongside “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago PD,” together with the network’s Friday mainstay, “Grimm” for its fifth season and “Law & Order: SVU” is set to returns for Season 17.

"The creative vision of the executive producers who've guided these outstanding dramas has been nothing short of incredible," said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke in a statement. "We're highly appreciative of the passion they bring to their shows at every step of the creative process and we're thrilled to reward that dedication with these renewals."

Fox’s “Empire” was renewed in January right after the show second episode thanks to its astounding 9.9 million viewers for its first ever episode. Created by Lee Daniels (“The Butler”) and Danny Strong, “Empire” Season 1 ended its freshman season with a big bang headed by Terence Howard (Lucious Lyon) and Taraji P. Henson (Cookie Lyon).

Other Fox’s shows that are renewed for 2015-2016 TV season includes the new show “Gotham” for its second season and “New Girl” for its Season 5. Starring “O.C.” alum Ben McKenzie as the young Jim Gordon, “Gotham” Season 2 is also set to feature more villains including Mr. Freeze, Hugo Strange, Tommy Elliot, Clayface and Mad Hatter, according to IGN.

PBS’ “Downtown Abbey” is also set to return in the small screen for the show’s Season 6 with Julian Fellowes writing the episodes. “Downtown Abbey” Season 5 ended its run on Britain’s ITV in December and started its PBS premiere on Jan. 4.
