The Chainsmokers just released new single “Something Just Like This” at the BRIT Awards on Feb. 22. The song was made in collaboration with the popular British rock band, Coldplay.

The debut came a little unexpected though there had been rumours about some new music for quite a while. But given that the band had just recently offered to the world another hit single, it came no less a surprise when they dropped another big tune— and that too, so quickly.

The new single, which was shared online on The Chainsmokers’ YouTube channel soon after, garnered over 26 million likes at the time of writing the article. It has been said the band-of-two has a reputation of partnering with up-and-coming talents in the pop world. But teaming with someone from the top of the charts is something The Chainsmokers have been never known of before.

So when Coldplay’s Chris Martin took up the task of producing an upbeat, loving track with a Chainsmokers-style EDM-pop tune, the world couldn’t help but go gaga over it. Anticipated to be a chart hit in the coming weeks, the Martin-Chainsmokers collaboration is definitely worth a listen.

The electro-pop duo was in the news last month for its chartbuster hit “Paris,” which saw member Drew Taggart singing a major portion of the single for the first time. The song debuted among the Top 10 in both the US and the UK, before dropping out of the highest tier after a few weeks, as reported by Forbes.

The band’s other single “Closer” still continues to be one of the longest running hits of all time. “Closer” features pop singer Halsey, and the song was on Billaboard’s Hot 100 for the year 2016 for a whopping 12 weeks straight. The song ranked fourth among the longest-running No. 1 hit of all time. It is currently at No. 5 on the all-genre singles tally.

“Closer” also ranked #1 on ARIA Australia Top 50 Singles chart, spending nine weeks at the top of the chart. It later went on to become the longest-reigning #1 single of 2016 in Australia.

Further reports state that the Chainsmokers-Coldplay collab “Something Just Like This” will be featured on The Chainsmokers’ upcoming full-length album (untitled) to be released later in 2017. While it initially seemed that there wouldn’t be a complete album, the duo however decided otherwise, complying with fans’ requests.

The Chainsmokers is an American DJ duo who achieved a breakthrough with its 2014 single “#Selfie.” The duo consists of Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, aged 27 and 31 respectively. While Taggart hails from Maine, Pall is out and out a New Yorker.
