With Christmas just a few weeks away, some of the popular gaming apps are also getting into gear with the holiday season. For those who have been playing "Simpsons Tapped Out," "Worms 3" and "Plants vs. Zombies 2" on Android or iOS, prepare for some new challenges, tasks and new items coming with the update.

'Simpsons Tapped Out' Winter 2014

Since it debuted in 2012, Electronic Arts' "Simpsons Tapped Out" has seen a lot of updates, most of which are in tuned with a show special or a seasonal tribute. For Christmas 2014, there is the Winter 2014 update, which brings in elves, Santa, presents and Feds to Springfield.

Inside Mobile Apps reports that the Winter 2014 update is triggered by Santa relocating his workshop to Springfield because of global warming and the need for more helpers (a.k.a. labourers). Similar to the 2014 Halloween Event, this time, players need to collect presents, either by letting key Simpsons characters work tasks in Santa's workshop or by visiting their neighbors' Springfields and tapping on buildings.

Once players get enough presents, they can unlock some exclusive characters or items. There's also the bonus of accomplishing Santa's Daily Tasks, which gives players even more items and decorations and bonus presents (if the task is accomplished within 24 hours).

Those who haven't downloaded the Winter 2014 update yet, or are just thinking of playing "Simpsons Tapped Out," the iOS version can be downloaded here. For those who are on Android, here's a link to get the game.

'Plants vs. Zombies 2' Goes Festive in Feastivus

Avid fans of the long-running garden backyard battle with the undead has just gotten the Feastivus update, which is meant to be the title's Christmas update to usher in the holiday season. The newest version will see its peak on Dec. 19, where "Plants vs. Zombies 2" will feature 18 days of party via the Piñata events. According to its official iTunes page, here's what the latest update will bring in:

- Sticky, special-edition plant Sap-fling

- Snow Pea's collectable winter hats

- Snowball fights - double snowballs upon winning a powerup

- The ugliest ugly sweaters players will see all season

- Special holiday prizes from Señor Piñata

The newest Christmas update follows the major Big Wave Beach update part two, which introduces 16 more levels and new zombies and plants, reports App Advice. It also finally brings in the big boss for the Big Wave Beach world, Dr Zomboss and the Zombot Sharktronic Sub. Make sure to download the via iTunes in the link above, or for those on an Android device, here's the link to the update.

'Worms 3' Gets Santa

"Simpsons Tapped Out' is not the only game getting a Santa as the latest "Worms 3" Christmas update also introduces St. Nicholas in the game. According to Touch Tap Play, Team 17 has released a Christmas-themed update.

The source reports that the update will let players bring Santa into the game as aid in making strike-based attacks. According to the iTunes page, the new Christmas 2014 update will bring some new festive hats to dress up worms. These come in the form of crackers, penguins and even turkeys.

There are also some new user interface updates, particularly a new wintery icon and menu. Plus, players can also throw Christmas pudding at enemies, which explode when they get near.

Check out the very Christmas-y artwork that features candy canes, Christmas trees, and snow for "Worms 3." Readers can also download the new update via iTunes or Google Play Store.
