Chris Pines is set to join Gal Gadot in the Warner Bros. movie “Wonder Woman,” a source confirmed the casting news to E! News on Tuesday. The “Star Trek” star will play Steve Trevor who is the love interest of Gadot’s Diana Prince, also known as “Wonder Woman.” The film will be directed by Patty Jenkins.

The news was first reported by The Wrap who cited that the actor will join the DC Movie Universe and that the contract includes a multi-picture deal with sequel options. While the movie’s plot remains a secret, Pine’s character will reportedly have a lot of action scenes in “Wonder Woman.”

Pine’s previous movie projects include “Into the Woods” and “The Princess Diaries 2.” However, the star is best known for playing Captain James T. Kirk in the “Star Trek” reboot movies, and he is currently filming “Star Trek Beyond.” The actor was also rumored to play Hal Jordan in Warner Bros.’ “Green Lantern.”

Aside from “Wonder Woman,” the actor’s future projects include Netflix’s “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp,” Craig Zobel’s “Z for Zachariah” and a Disney coast guard drama titled “The Finest Hour.” Pines is also set to star opposite Jeff Bridges and Ben Foster in “Comancheria.”

Meanwhile, prior to joining “Wonder Woman,” Gadot’s DC superhero character will be making its big screen debut in next year’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Zack Snyder, one of the film’s producers, told Entertainment Weekly last month how Gadot’s appearance in the “Batman v Superman” film will provide an important link in the DC universe. Snyder said, “She plays a super-important part. In a lot of ways, she’s the gateway drug to the rest of the Justice League.”

Zack and Deborah Snyder are set to produce the film along with Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Richard Suckle. Jason Fuchs, who wrote Joe Wright’s “Pan,” will pen the movie’s script. “Wonder Woman” is expected to hit theaters in 2017.
