Chris Algieri believes that it wouldn’t be a wise decision for Manny Pacquiao to pick Amir Khan for his comeback fight set April next year. Algieri stated that the Filipino pugilist would have a tough time against the British pro since he is coming off a shoulder injury.

“It’s hard to say. Pacquiao’s coming off of that shoulder surgery and Amir Khan’s a tough fight for anybody and to come back off of an injury and have that as your first opponent, I think that wouldn’t be a smart move for Pacquiao,” Algieri, who was dominated by Pacquiao in their bout last year, said in an interview with Jenna J of ontheropesboxing.com.

Algieri confessed however that a Pacquiao-Khan pairing in 2016 would be a “great fight” between “two great fighters.”

Algieri is one of the few fighters who have fought both Pacquiao and Khan. In back-to-back bouts, Algieri first lost to Pacquiao in November of 2014 in a one-side bout via a 12-round unanimous decision with scores of 119-103, 119-103 and 120-102 for Pacquiao. Six months later, Algieri would lose to Khan in another 12-rounder via unanimous decision but with closer scores of 115-113, 117-111 and 117-111 for the British boxer.

Pacquiao lost to Floyd Mayweather Jr. last May when the Filipino aggravated a shoulder injury he suffered during the training camp for the Mayweather fight. Pacquiao has not fought since and will have his comeback fight from the injury on April 9, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada in the United States.

Algieri also shared his thoughts on the Pacquiao-Mayweather bout saying that stylistically Pacquiao was never a “good match” for Mayweather, who recently retired from the sport.

Separate reports state that Pacquiao has already chosen his opponent for April 2016 and that the Filipino has selected Tim Bradley for his comeback bout.
