The company started producing sex dolls three years ago, and now owns a total of 13 types of dolls at the average price of 100 RMB (16 USD). More than 50,000 sex dolls were sold last year, about fifteen percent of which were exported to Japan, Korea and Turkey, according to the company. Reuters/Jason Lee

A 28-year-old Chinese man decided to marry a sex doll for a very personal reason. The still unnamed man is said to be dying of cancer and didn’t want to leave a grieving widow so he opted to wed the life-like doll instead.

Photos of the man’s wedding to his plastic “bride” have since gone viral. The Sun shared several shots of the strange pair prepping up for their photo shoot. One picture showed the sex toy sitting in front of the mirror being prepped with her wedding veil while the husband lovingly looks at his bride.

Another photo shared by The Sun shows the plastic bride standing beside the Chinese man as he tenderly holds unto his bride’s hand to give it a kiss. Another shot captured a sweet moment between the unlikely pair as the husband embraces his bride from behind. The sex doll, dressed in a wedding gown and a veil, looked so life-like in another photo that it could easily be mistaken for a real woman.

A local Chinese TV station claimed the man “chose to marry an artificial doll instead of a real person” because he didn’t want to hurt other people’s feelings, according to The Sun. The photographer who captured the man’s sweet moment with his plastic bride reportedly said that she does not agree with the man’s choice of marrying a sex doll. However, she also defended the man from online bashers and requested for people to just respect his choice and said that he “deserves respect and the choice to express himself.”

The identity of the husband is still unknown. However, Mirror UK reports that several Chinese netizens have already expressed their doubts at the wedding being legit. Others claimed the photos were merely for a marketing stunt.

This is not the first time though that a Chinese man has opted to get a life-like doll as a member of the family. Back in May, another Chinese man named Song Bo was diagnosed with a serious illness and thought he would never marry and have a child of his own. So he bought a child-sized doll to replace the daughter he thought he would never have. Photos of his time spent with his plastic daughter, from the railway station to eating in public places, are posted by Rocket News 24.
