Mexican footballer Javier Hernandez has finally bid goodbye to Manchester United and has signed a three-year contract with German club, Bayer Leverkusen. The transfer fee has not been disclosed but BBC confirms it to be £7.3 million (AU $11.53 million)

Hernandez, who is popularly called “Chicharito”, was associated with Red Devils for five years and won two Barclays Premier League titles during this time. He scored 57 goals in 159 appearances while he played for the Reds. In the recent match with Swansea City he spent his time on the bench as an unused substitute as the Manchester United faced the first defeat of the season.

Hernandez spent his last season on loan to Real Madrid but eventually he failed to get signed permanently and rejoined the Reds during Tour 2015. Following his return he played his final game with Reds and contributed to a terrific 4-0 win over the Belgian club, Club Brugge.

“With this signing, we have adjusted and significantly increased the strength of our squad in preparation for the tough challenges we’ll face in the coming months. After qualifying for the Champions League group stage we wanted to show our intentions up front. We have succeeded with that by bringing in Javier Hernandez,” Michael Schade, the CEO of Bayer Leverkusen, reported to the club’s official site.

Chicharito explained that the transfer to the German Club will bring special challenges for him.

“I know two of the top three leagues in Europe having played in the English Premier League and the Primera Division in Spain. Now I want to get to know the Bundesliga, as I’ve heard a lot about the fantastic stadiums in Germany and the unique fans. The Bundesliga is very much full of attacking teams and that really attracts me. It’s a miracle that I can play for a club like Leverkusen who I know from the Champions League. Bayer 04 represents a great chance for me and I’d like to achieve things while I’m here,” said Hernandez in an interview published on the Club’s official site.
