Ray McDonald was released by the Chicago Bears after his recent arrest. TMZ Sports reported that defensive end Ray McDonald was accused of domestic violence for the second time in less than one year. Allegedly, an argument started at his Santa Clara home early in the morning on May 25, 2015. According to Santa Clara police, McDonald struck a woman, whose name was withheld, with a baby in her arms then proceeded to another home in San Jose.

Officers arrived at his Santa Clara house at around 3:45 a.m. then located him at the San Jose house, which was reportedly owned by Justin Smith of the San Francisco 49ers. McDonald was arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence and child endangerment.

In the summer of 2014, McDonald’s ex-fiancee also accused the defensive end of domestic violence, although the district attorney did not file an action because of the victim’s refusal to cooperate. Fansided wrote that McDonald has also been accused of sexual assault in San Jose in December 2014, causing the San Francisco 49ers to let go of him, USA Today revealed. Now, he has three cases of violence against women in just nine months.

TMZ Sports also revealed that the Chicago Bears immediately dropped the defensive lineman, despite McDonald recently signing a contract with them for one year for a non-guaranteed $1.05 million in March 2015.

Ryan Pace, general manager of the Bears, said in an article by USA Today, “We believe in second chances, but when we signed Ray we were very clear what our expectations were if he was to remain a Bear. He was not able to meet the standard and the decision was made to release him."

Clearly, McDonald fell short of the Bears standard and will now have to look for a team that can take the risk of including him on their roster, despite his history of violence.
