Chelsea attacker Willian revealed that Jose Mourinho’s past claim of conspiracy theory plotted against the west London club was just one of the Portuguese’s ways of protecting his players.

The “Special One” expressly stated that persons involved in the Premier League were conspiring to prevent his side from winning, following questionable calls by match officials due to “external pressure” brought about by unfavourable comments by the media and some managers, among others.

“Jose Mourinho talks with us a lot. I think he says these things, that there is an agenda against Chelsea, to protect us as a group,” said Willian.

“He says it to motivate us and to show he is with us all the time. Sometimes he says things to the media to make us stronger.”

“As we are top of the league, everyone wants to steal our position. That’s why he wants us to be aware of it and maintain our focus for the rest of the season.”

Chelsea are now five points clear off second-placers Manchester City and are determined to keep the status quo until the end of the ongoing campaign.

Meanwhile, the recent addition of January signing Juan Cuadrado added more depth to Mourinho’s attacking lineup, which already boasts the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar, and Willian himself, which promotes healthy competition among players within the team.

“It is true that with the arrival of Cuadrado, the competition in the squad is stronger,” the Brazilian added.

“But I will always fight for my place. I will never feel comfortable otherwise someone will come and take my place.”

“He (Cuadrado) is a good player. He did his first training session with us and fitted in well. We hope he can be happy with us here at Chelsea.”
