"Chasing Mavericks" star Jonny Weston will continue to surf, but he knows it will take an immense amount of training to prepare a surfer for the big waves.

"I’ll never stop surfing, but I have no illusions about the amount of training and natural ability that big waves require," said Weston, who was last seen in the big screen in "Under the Bed".

"Too many people have been training to surf Mavericks since they were eight years old and it still takes them into the next life.”

In his latest biographical film, Weston plays Californian surfer Jay Moriarty in his journey to conquer the dangerous waves of northern California. Gerald Butler also stars in the movie as Frosty Hesson, a local legend who will later on serve as Moriarty's mentor. The film is as much as bout surfing as about the friendship between Hesson and Moriarty.

Moriarty is a well-known American surfer who achieved fame at the young age of 16, when his wipeout of Maverick was recorded and made the cover of the magazine, Surfer. He died in a diving accident in 2001.

Weston said playing a real person was tough for him.

“That was the hardest part of the whole film for me. I felt a lot of pressure to do it right by his family and friends," Weston told VMan magazine in a news issue that has a spread featuring him.

"But thanks to what the town and Jay [Moriarity]‘s friends and his former wife, Kim, did for me… I just couldn’t have done it without them."

"Chasing Mavericks" is scheduled for release in U.S. theaters on October 26, 2012. Watch the trailer for the film and see just how big and dangerous the waves are in northern California!
