When we think of Miss Universe, we visualise gorgeous women sashaying down the ramp with their lovely gowns, flawless skin, perfect poise, make-up and even long hair. But times are changing now and today's Miss Universe reflects today's modern women, who may not necessarily follow these rules, especially when it comes to longer hair.

In this year's Miss Universe 2013 pageant, we have two women with short hair - Miss Czech Republic 2013, Gabriela Kratochvílová and Miss Switzerland 2013, Dominique Rinerknecht. Both women have exceptionally short hair as compared to the other contestants.

Gabriela Kratochvílová created history of sorts when she became the first short-hair winner of the Miss Universe Czech Republic Pageant this year. An active sportsperson, the 23-year-old brunette beauty took up fitness aerobics, snowboarding, disco and ballroom dancing, figure skating and even football as her passion. The 5 feet, 8 inch tall beauty also has a passion for the arts, loves drawing, films and playing the piano, according to Miss Universe Website.

The short-haired beauty is currently a student of marketing and communication at the University of Finance and Administration in Prague, Czech Republic. She is also a graduate in hotel management, gastronomy and tourism.

One look at her pictures on Facebook and you see not a sophisticated beauty queen but a real woman who looks more like a rock star (Roxette?). But Gabriela has won the most prestigious title from her country and was crowned Miss Czech Republic 2013. She will represent her country at Miss Universe 2013 and has the confident and poise to become a winner too!

The other short (or even shaved) tresses beauty queen is Dominique Rinerknecht from Zurich, Switzerland. This 24-year-old beauty reminds you of pop star Miley Cyrus (only in looks...!) when you see her profile picture. She has shaved her side buns and has a short pixie cut with blonde hair flipping over her forehead just like Miley.

The blonde beauty holds a bachelor's degree in communications. She is a skilled pianist, who has played for 13 years and also has her interests in Hip-Hop, Street and Jazz dance. So do we expect to see more of her in talent round?

If you are wondering whether the panel of Judges will be impressed by these short haired beauties or not, we would like to tell you that short hair was a trend in the 1950s too and many of the Miss Universe crowned in that era has short hair including Armi Kuusela from Finland who was crowned Miss Universe in 1952, Christiane Martel from France - the Miss Universe in 1953 and many more in that era.

More recently, Stefania Fernandez Miss Universe 2011 also chopped off her long tresses and opted for a beautiful bob cut. She looked ravishing in the cut and people loved it.

Short hair is in 2013 and also been a style statement for many celebrities including Rihanna, Beyonce and Miley Cyrus this year. So would the Miss Universe 2013 judges have an open mind and accept one of the short-hair contestants as their favourites? Take a look at the slideshow above and tells us who your favourite short-haired contestant for Miss Universe 2013 is.
