Tablet computers will outsell personal computers by 2015 Reuters

The tech company has first unveiled the 6mm thick tablet at Intel's developer forum last September, but its appearance at the Las Vegas tech show is the first time that consumers got a firsthand experience of the thin tablet. Apparently, the Venue 8 7000 is one of the few Android tablets that has made quite a mark at the on-going tech event.

Based on PCWorld's review, Dell's slim 8.4-inch tablet boasts an impressive OLED edge to edge 2560x1600 resolution display. Under its hood is Intel's 2.3 GHz Atom quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and supported by 512GB of MicroSD. It uses Android 4.4 Kitkat as its platform.

What is notable with the Venue 8 7000 is its camera capabilities since it is the first tablet to feature Intel's RealSense Snapshot Depth Camera. According to The Verge, the tablet is equipped with an 8 megapixel rear camera found at the lower body of the device and at the back of the tablet are three 720p stereoscopic cameras.

Once photos are captured, editing tools in Dell's Gallery app gives users more control over images and allows them to refocus images with a tap. A slider tool also helps users adjust the blur intensity for the photo while another tool lets users adjust depth of focus. Altering the background color of a shot is also possible wherein users can change the background of a portrait to black and white while leaving the face in full color.

The tablet's battery life is also at par with leading market players. According to Dell, the device can last up to 9 hours and 40 minutes at maximum brightness while streaming videos.

Additionally, the Venue 8 7000 can work with a keyboard plus a folio, which can also be converted for use as a stand for the tablet. The tablet can also be synced with a TV or monitor with the help of Dell's Cast adapter. This will enable users to work on a bigger screen converting the tablet in to a desktop.

Finally, the Venue 8 7000 just went on sale at Dell's website for $399.99. No words yet from the company if the device will be available in other venues.
