While millions of people worldwide ushered in the New Year with a throng of parties, a series of heartfelt toasts and newfound resolutions, soap opera stars shared in Instagram their activities and thoughts for the first day of 2016.

Jen Lilley, who plays Theresa in “Days of Our Lives” (DOOL), welcomed the New Year in an adventurous fashion. The “DOOL” star posted a photo with her best friend Carly Oates while they were on ensconced on top of Temescal Canyon trail in Los Angeles, California. Lilley captioned the photo, “Cheers to the only person who could get me out of bed this morning! That’s you @heycarlyoates! It’s the most superset time of the year. G’bye 2015!” The post received 790 likes.

A beautiful outdoor view was also the focus of Lauralee Bell from “The Young and the Restless.” Bell, who plays Christine in the CBS soap opera, shared a picture of a beautiful sunset amid a view of the ocean. “Home, thawed & ready for the year ahead,” she said in her post, which got 296 likes from her followers.

Don Diamont, known as Bill in the hit TV series “The Bold and the Beautiful,” posted in Instagram a video greeting with his family and friends during the New Year’s bash at the New York Times Square. Diamont captioned his post, “Happy new year in Times Square,” which garnered 2,324 likes.

Diamont and his loved ones were among the one million people who partied in Times Square for the famed event.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio officially kicked off the event by pushing the button that dropped a Waterford crystal ball, which weighed nearly 12,000 pounds, according to ABC.

When the clock struck 12 o'clock, the heavily secured place rang with loud cheers amid colorful fireworks. Revelers chose to carry on the New Year’s festivities, despite recent bouts of terrorism. According to ABC, there were 6,000 police officers – both wearing uniforms and civilian clothes – who guarded the area.

Celebrities who performed in the Times Square event included Luke Bryan, as well as Demi Lovato, according to Time. Other singers who entertained the throng of party goers were Luke Bryan, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth.
