To be honest, many celebrities do not understand what the storm is all about? Posing nude is fine, but posing breastfeeding your child isn't?

Redbook, Time, W, Vogue and Elle - did whip up their fair share of controversies by putting the most intimate moments of moms and bubs on the covers, and inside pages - the breastfeeding celebrities. Here's a sneak-peek into what got published and the story behind it.

Year 1997

Redbook magazine came out with what was then a fairly shocking cover featuring actor Pierce Brosnan gazing sweetly at his then girlfriend and now wife, Keely Shaye Smith as she breast-fed their infant son. The image wasn't particularly revealing but that cover was considered risqué enough to only appeared on newsstands while a more traditional image of the family went to subscribers. Even then, some convenience-store-chain owners reserved the right to move the "controversial" breast-feeding cover behind the counter along others magazines containing nudity like Playboy!

Year 1999

Model and actress Jerry Hall was featured on the cover of Vanity Fair while breastfeeding her son, Gabriel - the image was shot by Anne Leibovitz.

Year 2002

To celebrate the World Breastfeeding week, Lucy Lawless shot for a campaign that shows her sitting on the arm of a chair in a modest legs crossed position, wearing a power blouse-and-skirt with fishnet stocking and breastfeeding her little one, Judah. The captions says "Breastfeeding - my best role ever"

Year 2008

Angelinea Jolie appeared on the cover of W magazine in Novemeber with an astonishingly intimate and beautiful picture shot by Brad. Brunette locks tumbling over her shoulders, the top of her blouse pulled down to expose her breast which is covered by the tiny fingers of one of her suckling twins. A beautiful cover, timeless and classy!

Year 2010

French actress and model Laetitia Casta apperared in a the Paris Vogue December/January 2010 centre spread in a breastfeeding picture. However, since she went to the 35th Annual Cesar Film Awards in Paris in February 2010 in a hair-raising, eye-popping, totally see-through dress - the Vogue spread raised no eyebrows!

Year 2011

The photo of GirlieGirl Army founder Chloe Jo Davis breastfeeding her one-year-old son appeared in Elle Italia - a high fashion picture of a gorgeous mommy feeding her not-exactly new born child - though the photo shoot was about women who are changing the rules, and Davis was talking about vegan fashion! Certainly a game-changer and perhaps the reason why it was rejected as a cover!

Year 2012

And then there was Jamie Lynne Grumet, a non-celeb who became a celebrity by posing for the controversial Time Magazine cover in May on attachment parenting. She claimed to have been just shocked by the image as it was supposed to be just an image shot as an outtake, not the magazine would seriously consider suing. To "rectify" this, she then posed for the cover of 'Pathways to Family Wellness' for the November issue and was much happier with the results!

Year 2012

Tara Moss, the bestselling Canadian-Australian author, television presenter, journalist and former model who has been UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2007 and the UNICEF Australia Patron for Breastfeeding for the Baby Friendly Health Initiative since 2011, tried to play down the furor caused by the Time Cover In Vogue September 2012, Tara stated that feeding children from the breast is natural and that the WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, followed by solids and breastfeeding until two years of age and beyond. She also emphasized that let's not forget the "and beyond" part and ended with saying that breastfeeding a child is not strange or extreme! This was accompanied by a picture of her breastfeeding.
