Writers Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter are the show bosses of “Castle” Season 8. Creator Andrew W. Marlowe and his wife Terri Edda Miller have both left series. The two issued a joint farewell message on Twitter. David Amann, who ran Season 7, has decided to step down. So what convinced Stana Katic to stay despite these changes?

In an interview with Deadline, Stana Katic spoke about her decision to return. The actress is now a producer of the hit ABC procedural dramedy.

“Part of my thought process making the decision whether to do another season was creatively, what would that would look like,” Katic told Deadline. "Terence has been on the show since Day 1, and some of the most interesting episodes for my character were penned by Alexi — and while they are eager to shake things up and aim at telling challenging stories, they would also protect the integrity of the character.”

In a “Castle” Season 8 promo video (watch below), Katic’s Kate Beckett is now a captain. Her husband, titular character Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion), is still active in his P.I. profession, but he has a serious competition – his daughter Alexis (Molly Quinn).

“(If) we can tell many stories and have a creatively fulfilling experience, we love to jump and explore a character,” Katic said, hinting at exposing more layers of Kate Beckett in this new season.
