Stana Katic is leaving 'Castle'

“Castle” Season 7 airs a new episode Mar. 23 on ABC. Titled “At Close Range,” episode 7x18 is (spoiler alert) going to be Ryan-centric, according to ABC’s episode synopsis. Stana Katic on Twitter announced they have only two episodes left to film, and she promises behind the scenes (BTS) photos to celebrate the upcoming season finale. Stana didn't tweet anything about "Castle" Season 8.

(Spoiler alert: This update contains "Castle" Season 7 spoilers.) “Castle” series creator Andrew W. Marlowe has earlier hinted over Twitter that production was planning 23 episodes for “Castle” Season 7. This week’s new episode is the 18th (7x18). Stana Katic’s promise, if there are 23 episodes indeed, are BTS photos from the 22nd and 23rd episodes. It remains to be seen if the season finale is a stand-alone episode or a cliffhanger that gets resolved in "Castle" Season 8.

Responding to a fan on Twitter, Stana Katic said she is “proud of all we’ve accomplished” in “Castle” – while they have yet to film the "Castle" Season 7 finale. Asked about “Caskett babies,” the actress simply tweeted, “Dunno. Not my call.” In 7x17, Beckett expresses respect for a cop who balances her life between a family with “cute kids” and a high-risk, demanding job.

Stana Katic will be posting her celebratory “Castle” Season 7 BTS photos on her Instagram account. Nearly three thousand clicked the “favourite” button on Stana’s BTS promise on Twitter in less than 24 hours.

This week’s 7x18 episode is placing Ryan (Seamus Dever) “in the middle of an assassination plot.” Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett help out, but essentially this week’s new “Castle” Season 7 is a Ryan milestone.

When Stana answered a fan question on the number of episodes until “Castle” Season 7 finale filming, production was still working on the 21st episode. Now that there are only two episodes left, Stana is neither giving away spoilers, nor dropping hints about the likelihood of "Castle" Season 8.

Months ago, when Stana Katic was asked about her thoughts on timing for a “Castle” series finale, the actress mentioned it is “better to stop when you’re on top.” She did, however, mentioned a specific condition for a reasonable series finale timing: “if there is nowhere else to go creatively.”

Contracts and official announcements have yet to happen for a “Castle” Season 8. New showrunner David Amann just got promoted at the start of Season 7. Many fans interacting on Twitter with Nathan Fillion (nearly three million followers to date) and Stana Katic (over 500 thousand followers to date) are hopeful for an official eighth season.
