Wozniacki is set to compete at the Bank of the West Classic event in Stanford University. It is her first tournament following her fourth-round loss 6-4 6-4 to ensuing finalist Garbine Muguruza at the All England Club during the 2015 Wimbledon Championships.

Wozniacki has earned the top seed at the tournament after World No. 1 and three-time Bank of the West Classic champion Serena Williams has pulled out of the tournament due to an injury. Williams was replaced by Aleksandra Krunic. Other top-seeded players are Agnieszka Radwanska, Carla Suarez Navarro, Karolina Pliskova, Angelique Kerber and Andrea Petkovic.

The top four seeds received a bye into the second round. Wozniacki will face the winner of the match between Mirjana Lucic-Baroni and Varvara Lepchenko, whom she has played and won against in all their previous four encounters in the past.
