The Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Seas cruise ship caught fire at about 2:50 a.m. on Monday as it travels to Bahamas, CNN reported. The fire alarms caused passengers to awaken in panic and immediately evacuates to the nearest deck. The cruise ship was transporting its 2,224 guests along with its 796 crew to CococCay, Bahamas but the fire had cut the trip short and instead docked at Freeport, Bahamas.

Luckily, the cruise ship did not lose power and was quickly maneuvered to Freeport in the Bahamas for further evaluation of the extent of the fire damage. The fire was promptly extinguished by 5 a.m. as confirmed by the Royal Caribbean.

The cruise ship docked at Freeport at about 10:15 a.m. The Royal Caribbean said that, "In an abundance of caution, the captain deemed it necessary to muster all guests at their assembly stations during the incident. Everyone aboard was accounted for and guests have been allowed to return to most staterooms and public areas."

Danielle Miller, one of the cruise passengers told CNN that she didn't know at first why the passengers are being gathered on the deck. But, she and her friend Katie Coleman were able to take video of what's happening.

The video showed all the passengers safely gathered on the deck, wearing orange life jackets and intently listening to the crews' instructions. The voice over on the recorded video said, "We're on deck right now now, 3 a.m. in our life jackets. Not a drill, not a joke."

Danielle Miller recalled that "Before we went to bed, there was a pretty bad storm, and the ship was really rocking, so our first thought was that we were sinking, because they said 'life jackets' and run. We got up to the deck, and we see life boats being lowered down. We didn't know what was going on for about a half-hour, when they made an announcement that there was a fire."

Danielle Miller said that the incident was scary race topside. "We probably ran up to that deck faster than we ever ran before. We were terrified, though, and a lot of people were just crying and freaking out."

But she recognizsd the crews' manner of handling the incident. "Even though it was terrifying, they tried their best to make everyone comfortable. They're so well-trained that I felt confident that we would be OK."

Two guests received medical attention for fainting. There are also passengers whose high blood pressure elevated and there are some who had sprained ankles. According to Royal Caribbean spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez, there were no major medical emergencies.

U.S. Coast Guard spokeswoman Marilyn Fajardo said that initial reports on the cause of fire stated that the fire started on an aft mooring deck and spread to the fourth deck at the crew lounge. There are no more additional details as of the moment.

The passengers will then be transported back home from Freeport as the Royal Caribbean decided not to push through with the cruise anymore. According to an official statement released by the company, arrangements were already done for passengers to be safely flown back to Baltimore. The ship left the Baltimore dock on Friday with an original itinerary of a seven-night cruise.

Royal Caribbean assures that all passengers' fare will be refunded for the cruise and will receive a voucher for their future cruise. The company also extended its apology to all the passengers and expressed their gratitude for passengers' patience and cooperation in dealing with this unfortunate situation."
