Concept art for the upcoming “Captain Marvel” movie has just been revealed to a select few at a recent showcase of the newly renovated Disney Studios. There, journalists caught their first glimpse of Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson as the titular character of Marvel’s upcoming addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Concept photos of the “Kong: Skull Island” star revealed her sporting what appeared to be her character’s classic red-and-blue suit. The fact that Larson was illustrated to don the definitive Captain Marvel (otherwise known as Carol Danvers) costume is something that may appease die-hard fans as it sticks to its classic roots.

According to Vanity Fair, the images showcasing Larson in the likeness of Carol revealed a look that closely resembled Jamie McKelvie’s redesign of the character from 2012. This included the notable zipper and high collar on the suit.

With McKelvie’s character design into account, it was noted that Carol’s hair was not the modern updo that has been seen in the artist’s iteration. This has been the subject of many debates in the community, as the vote on having Larson sport either the shorter hairdo or longer locks in the “Captain Marvel” movie has been split amongst the fans.

Detailing the costume, IGN reports that the superhero suit seemed more textured, as is the norm in typical superhero movie costumes today. Furthermore, Carol’s iconic star symbol on her chest appeared more silver than gold, and the overall saturation of the suit seemed a bit dulled. This can be compared to the MCU iteration of Captain America, who has sported more muted colours in his solo films.

It’s worth noting that since these are just concept images, details and other designs are still subject to being revised along the way. It’s still too early to say if these teasers will make it to the final cut or if they will even see the light of day beyond its selective audience at Disney Studios. As such, while these may be early hints or predictions on what to expect from the upcoming MCU entry, there is still a possibility that the actual film might scrap these early ideas altogether.

The Captain Marvel character has had a long history in the Marvel universe with the mantle being carried by several other characters in the comics at different points in time. Carol, who was originally known as super-heroine Ms. Marvel, later assumed the Captain title in her current ongoing series written by Kelly Sue Deconnick. Her upcoming solo film in the MCU is slated to be released in March 2019.
