The “Captain America: Civil War” trailer set the bar high with a record-breaking 61 million views within its 24 hours of release.

Variety reports that “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is the most viewed Marvel trailer last year when it debuted with 34 million views. However, the record is small compared to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” with 112 million views on its first day.

The trailer dropped last week with two-and-a-half minutes worth of footage. It first aired on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on Nov. 24, where both Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. appeared to kick-off the film promotion.

The trailer has it all: from intrigues, to explosions and to heroes going toe-to-toe against each other.

Familiar faces such as Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), The Falcon (Anthony Mackie), The War Machine (Tom Cheadle), The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) appear in the trailer with notable addition of newcomer Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman.

Other characters who are confirmed to join the cast but did not appear in the trailer are Spider-Man (Tom Holland), Agent 13 (Emily Van Camp), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Vision (Paul Bettany). Hulk (Mark Rufallo) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) will be absent in the film but will appear side-by-side in "Thor: Ragnarok."

With more heroes featured here than in the previous “Avengers” films, “Captain America: Civil War” is one of the most anticipated films in 2016.

The trailer sets the tone for the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe “Phase 3” offerings, which will begin to introduce more heroes, leading up to the third installment of the “Avengers” franchise -- “Infinity Wars” in 2018.

“Captain America: Civil War” opens on May 6, 2016.
