Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes a.k.a. Winter Soldier in “Captain America: Civil War,” recently shared some details about his character’s storyline in the movie. Stan talked about the emotional struggle Bucky goes through after he learns of his past life with Steve Rogers and his involvement with HYDRA.

Stan talks briefly about “Captain America: Civil War” while doing press rounds for “The Martian.” In the video below, the actor reveals the sequel will delve deeper into Bucky’s backstory and his relationship with HYDRA. Stan says the movie will pick up from where his character was left off in “Captain America: Winter Soldier,” where Bucky is just starting to remember his past life.

“Where we find him after Winter Soldier, he's in a place where he is learning about himself. And he's discovering -- as you saw in the last scene of The Winter Soldier, at the museum -- he's starting to put the pieces together, starting to learn about the past. Where he's been. What he's done,” he says.

However, remembering his past “doesn’t come without a huge price,” Stan says. There would reportedly be emotional and mental struggles that come along with it.

The actor reveals that “Captain America: Civil War” will show Bucky having to answer for all the damage he’s done while working with HYDRA. When asked to comment on his character’s relationship with Marvel’s fictional terrorist organisation, Stan hints there would be an emotional struggle for Bucky when it comes to his connection to HYDRA.

The actor teases there would be a hesitation on Bucky’s part to depart from the organisation since he owes them his life and he has already considered them as his second family. According to Comic Book, it’s these ties to HYDRA that would make Bucky a “problem for a lot of people” in “Captain America: Civil War.” However, it’s reportedly also likely that Bucky eventually becomes a hero in “Civil War.”

It’s believed Bucky will also be responsible in causing a rift in the relationship between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark. This scenario was teased in the trailer for “Captain America: Civil War,” where both Bucky and Captain America are seen battling Iron Man.
