Among the many questions directed at Kevin Feige during Saturday’s “Ant-Man” press junket was about Black Panther. He was quizzed about the role T’Challa will play in “Captain America: Civil War.”

Devin Faraci from Birth.Movies.Death asked whether T’Challa’s presence in “Captain America: Civil War” will, at the onset, already introduce him as the Black Panther. Kevin Feige declined to reveal any particular details to avoid spoilers. Instead he replied, “It is a role that he is still in the beginning phases of taking on, it’s a mantle he is only beginning to take on because his father is older.”

Kevin Feige also explained why the studio had decided to make “Captain America: Civil War” as Black Panther’s debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, instead of in his 2018 solo film. There were reportedly some discussions during the development process on which character best fits the role as a third party. "The reason we introduced him in Civil War is because we needed a third party," he said.

"We needed fresh eyes who wasn’t (sic) embedded with the Avengers and who has a very different point of view than either Tony or Steve. We said, ‘We need somebody like Black Panther… why don’t we just use Black Panther?’" Feige added.

More details about Black Panther’s role in the sequel have yet to be revealed. However, Screenrant previously mentioned that Black Panther will be on a mission to hunt down Bucky Barnes a.k.a. Winter Soldier in “Captain America: Civil War.”

The site claimed T’Challa will be up against Steve Rogers’ best friend because he may have stolen some vibranium to upgrade his bionic arm. According to Screenrant, Bucky Barnes may have also gotten in touch with Ulysses Klaw for his needed vibranium, which in turn would put him under Black Panther’s radar.

Chadwick Boseman has been cast to play the role of Black Panther. MTV News caught up with the actor at the world premiere of “Avengers: Age of Ultron to talk about his role in “Captain America: Civil War.” Boseman revealed he’s read the comics to get some ideas about his character. He has reportedly also turned to “history and science” sources for knowledge on how Black Panther’s fictional nation of Wakanda might operate.
