Calvin Harris breaks silence on Taylor Swift split: ‘When it ended, all hell broke loose’
Calvin Harris has spoken up for the first time about his highly publicised split with Taylor Swift in June.
In the October issue of British GQ , the 32-year-old Scottish DJ described the split from Taylor, 26, as challenging.
“It’s very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly,” he told the publication. “The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicised than the relationship itself.”
The DJ also clarified that he and the “Bad Blood” singer never wanted the extra attention.
“When we were together, we were very careful for it not to be a media circus,” he said. “She respected my feelings in that sense.”
He lamented, “But when it ended, all hell broke loose."
Calvin, who was named as Patron Tequila’s Solo Artist of the Year at GQ’s Men of the Year Awards on Tuesday, specifically talked about his infamous Twitter rants in July about Taylor’s involvement with his hit collaboration with Rihanna, “This Is What You Came For.” News broke that Taylor wrote the summer hit under the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg when they were still a couple.
“Hurtful to me at this point that her and her team would go so far out of their way to try and make ME look bad at this stage though,” the DJ tweeted at that time. “I figure if you’re happy in your new relationship you should focus on that instead of trying to tear your ex bf down for something to do.”
Calvin now considered his Twitter takedown as “completely the wrong instinct.”
“Now I see that Twitter thing as a result of me succumbing to pressure,” he told the magazine. “It took me a minute to realise that none of that matters. I’m a positive guy.”
As for the breakup itself, Calvin explained that it was something that needed to occur.
“For both of us it was the wrong situation. It clearly wasn’t right, so it ended.”
Although Calvin and Taylor’s split seemed completely amicable at first, both have appeared to move on these days. Rumours have been swirling that the DJ is dating 26-year-old actress and singer Eiza Gonzalez, while Taylor and boyfriend Tom Hiddleston have reportedly called it quits.
