In this modern day and age, people practically live in a digital world where most individuals cannot really imagine a life without computers, laptops, tablets or cellphones. Despite people's dependence on 21st century technology, there are a lot of myths or misconceptions on how these technologies operate. Here are just some of the universal tech myths that we come across with.

1. It is illegal to jailbreak your phone - While you can lose warranties on your phones, it is certainly NOT illegal to jailbreak your phone according to LifeHacker. According to the Copyright Office, people can jailbreak their phone as it is legal given they do not use it for piracy.

2. Mac computers do not get viruses -Although complaints about viruses have generally been less with Mac computers compared to personal computers, no one can say that Mac computers are 100% virus-free according to Business Insider. Back in 2012, a virus called Trojan affected numerous Mac computers.

3. Charging your phone, though the battery is already full, will damage your phone - Nowadays, most smartphones use lithium-ion batteries. Smartphones running on these batteries stop charging as soon as they recognize that they are already full. Also, there is no evidence that supports the theory that over-charging your phone hurts battery-life.

4. A camera with more megapixels is better - There is not much difference between a camera with 12 mega pixels vs a camera with just 10. The quality of the picture is dependent on how much light the camera sensors detect and absorb.

5. Shutting down your computer on a daily basis is bad for your computer - The opposite of this is actually more true. It is; in fact, better to shut down your computer every so often as it enables the computer to rest. This means less stress for the computer and its components, which in turn means, a longer life for said computer.
