‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ season 5, episode 1 airs September
‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ season 5, episode 1 is set to air in September, and if last season’s guest list is any indication, the upcoming set of episodes should feature many star-studded appearances. Brooklyn Nine-Nine/Fox

“Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 5, episode 1 is officially set to air in less than two months, and fans of the Fox comedy series are desperately hoping that Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) and Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) are able to get out of their predicament. But if Beatriz’s recent behind-the-scene snapshot suggests anything, it’s that Peralta (and Diaz) may be spending some time behind bars.

Spoiler alert: This article contains plot details about the upcoming season of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” The fifth season premieres Sept. 26 in the US. Barring any changes, the season 5 opener should be available for Australian viewers to watch on SBS on Sept. 27, Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.

The cast of everyone’s favourite cop show shot promos last week for its much-awaited fifth season. Everyone was all smiles on the set despite what lies ahead for the squad. And it looks like renegade lieutenant Melanie Hawkins (Gina Gershon) has succeeded in framing up Diaz and Peralta for a crime they did not commit.

Beatriz shared a few images from the promo shoot on her Instagram account, and one particular snapshot proved to be very interesting for fans. Samberg, who usually sports a clean, well-shaven look for his character, can be seen with a considerably rugged beard on Beatriz’s photo (see the image below). This may very well mean that Peralta does spend some time behind prison bars, and that a possible time jump may occur right off the bat or at any given point on the “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 5 premiere.

The fourth season’s opener likewise featured a similar time jump. The episode opened things up with Peralta and Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) having already spent six months in Florida under the witness protection programme after being threatened by Jimmy “The Butcher” Figgis (Eric Roberts). It wasn’t until the third episode that Peralta and Holt got reunited with the squad.

Last season’s finale was a roller coaster ride for both the show’s tried characters and the fans. Just when everyone thought that Diaz and Peralta were about to get acquitted, Hawkins elevated her game and proved that she was indeed in control. They were found guilty by the jurors and now face 15 years in prison.

It remains to be seen how Diaz and Peralta find ways to get out of their dilemma. Hawkins is a tough egg to crack, and the fact that she’s one of most respected police officers in the NYPD only helps her case. Stay connected with IBTimes Autralia for more “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” season 5 updates.
