Wayne Ellington became the unlikely hero on Monday night (Tuesday in Australia) in the Brooklyn Nets’ 111-105 road victory over the Miami Heat. Ellington matched a career-high seven 3-pointers on his way to 26 points as he led the Nets’ big fourth quarter to pull off the upset win.

The Nets trailed 54-88 at halftime, and the Heat appeared to be cruising to the easy home win, getting the double-digit lead 60-49 early in the third quarter. However, Brooklyn made the major rally and grabbed the 78-77 lead entering the final quarter. The Nets outscored the Heat 33-28 in the fourth quarter and enjoyed a double-digit lead midway.

Star big man Brook Lopez also had 26 points and made 12 rebounds, while Jarrett Jack had 18 points, 6 assists and 2 steals.

Miami was led by Dwyane Wade, who had 24 points and 6 assists, and Chrish Bosh, who also had 24 points plus 12 rebounds. Hassan Whiteside finished with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds with five blocked shots. Luol Deng contributed 15 points.

The Heat dropped to 18-12 for the season after the loss, and the team has a standing of 5-6 in their last 11 games. The Nets, meanwhile, managed to return to the win column after their back-to-back losses to the Dallas Mavericks and Washington Wizards.

Miami will try to bounce back on Tuesday (Wednesday in Australia) when they face the Memphis Grizzlies on the road. Brooklyn ends a three-game road trip at the Orlando Magic and Boston Celtics in their next two games.
