In the early 2000s, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake made up the most popular couple in Hollywood, and hearts broke all over the world when they split in 2002. It’s been 14 years since, and their adoring public might just get the reunion they’ve been waiting for.

On Aug. 27, Britney participated in “Most Requested Live With Romeo,” where the 34-year-old was asked various questions and even received some praise for her parenting skills. The interview was very casual, but got particularly interesting when a fan asked the mother-of-two whom she would like to work with musically.

"Aerosmith seems really good and bright. He's a genius, I think. And, he's very rock n' roll. He sings from his soul," Britney said of Steven Tyler. Back in 2001, Britney actually performed with Aerosmith during the Super Bowl halftime show.

After which, she mentioned how she would love to work with a fellow female musician in particular. "Gwen Stefani -- I think she's great."

And almost as if there was no history to speak of, she matter-of-factly brought up her ex. "Justin Timberlake is very good," she said casually, before moving onto the next question.

E! News has learned, however, that Justin is very willing to work on the collaboration as well. The publication caught up with the 35-year-old at the Toronto International Film Festival Premiere of “Justin Timberlake + The Tennessee Kids.” Britney’s answer on “Most Requested Live With Romeo” was revealed to him, and he was quite surprised.

“She did?” he asked, almost disbelievingly. “Sure! Absolutely, absolutely.”

The father-of-one then apologised for not knowing earlier, saying that his life does not leave much time to read headlines. "I apologise for not being in the know... I'm accessible, give us a call!"

Other than the two confirming their willingness to work on a song together, there has been no further news on a collaboration.
