A 23-year-old student choked to death on his way to the hospital after consuming 25 shots of vodka in less than a minute in his attempt to win the drinking competition as a university party.

A group of young students were partying at the Julio de Mesquita University in Bauru, Brazil, at the time of the incident. The excited group members challenged each other to see who could drink 25 shots of vodka under one minute when Fonseca decided to opt for the challenge.

The group knew that the drinking competition has gone tragically wrong when Fonseca confessed to his friends that he is feeling sick, before collapsing suddenly. Fonseca died on his way to the hospital.

"We were all having a great time and someone came up with the idea of the drinking competition,” said the friend of the deceased, Rodrigo Pancetti, reported The Mirror.

"I knew I'd already had too much and there was no way I was going to be able to drink five, let alone 25. But Humberto and the others were really up for it,” he continued.

Reportedly, six others among the group are under observation in the intensive care at the hospital as they complained of alcohol poisoning just after consuming excessive vodka.

"They all had alcohol poisoning and are in a critical state, with three still in intensive care," revealed an official from the hospital, reported The Mirror.

The police investigation team is planning to put the homicide charge against the party organisers, as the university spokesperson reinforced to students that consumption of alcohol in any form is strictly prohibited inside the college campus.
