After starring in the zombie movie “World War Z,” Hollywood A-list actor Brad Pitt is producing another movie with the “Z” in it and this time it’s about one man’s “deadly obsession in the Amazon.” Written for screenplay by James Gray, “The Lost City of Z” stars “Sons of Anarchy” actor Charlie Hunnam for the lead role as legendary British explorer Col. Percy Fawcett.

Replacing “Sherlock” actor Benedict Cumberbatch for the role, Hunnam recently wrapped up his seven-year TV stint with FX biker drama series. The 34-year-old star is slowly making his way to the big screen and is headed into Brazil’s Amazon jungle to portray a British Colonel in a mapping quest in 1925.

While suffering from a worst case of Malaria, Fawcett claimed that he discovered the mystical city hidden in the lush forest of the Amazon. Mocked by his peers who called his discovery a fraud, Fawcett sets off in a journey along with his son and 16 other companion to prove his discovery of the ancient lost city. Unfortunately, that was the last time that anyone saw the three of them.

“In 1927, Fawcett was officially declared missing, prompting a wave of expeditions in search of him; but, unlike other famed lost explorers, such as Amelia Earhart, he had kept his planned route a secret, making it almost impossible for anyone to retrace his steps,” according to the New Yorker.

Dubbed as one of the last of the great amateur archaeologists and cartographers, Fawcett survived many expeditions where nobody had returned. He even stayed in the jungle for years at a time with no ample food and no contact in the outside world. But his last expedition has proven to be the most dangerous as it took more than 100 people who disappeared or perished while trying to retrace his steps.

“The Lost City of Z” will be produced by Brad Pitt’s Plan B entertainment along with Dale Johnson and Anthony Katagas. Pitt dropped out from the role as Fawcett before Cumberbatch was attached to the film but also forced to let go of it due to scheduling conflicts as he is set to star in Marvel’s “Doctor Strange.”

“Twilight” alum Robert Pattinson and “American Sniper” star Sienna Miller” are set to star alongside Charlie Hunnam. The film’s production is reportedly set to begin this summer.
