BP, the largest supplier of fuel to Australia’s industrial sector, has commenced construction of a new truckstop in Dandenong.

The site, which is expected to take around nine months to complete, is being built at the corner of Greens and Hammond Road, and will serve the ever-increasing number of trucks travelling in and out of the Dandenong precinct.

Welcoming the development, Dean Salter, BP Australia’s Vice President Wholesale, Reseller and Retail, said: “This will be the 15th dedicated Truckstop in our network.

“These facilities are on major trunk roads and are designed specifically for truckers. They offer drivers an opportunity to rest and refuel in safe, attractive and well-lit surroundings.”

The Dandenong Truckstop is part of BP’s continuing investment in Australia. The project involves an investment of some $10 million and will create or sustain around 80 jobs across a range of disciplines during construction. Some 20 new jobs will be created when the site begins operating in mid-2012.

Other BP projects currently under way, or recently completed, include major new terminal facilities and significant upgrades to both the Bulwer Island and Kwinana refineries. The company is also investing heavily in the North West Shelf Venture, the proposed Browse development and exploration off the coast of South Australia.
